Rudolf Junk 1880-1943

Rudolf Junk studied German at the University of Vienna, when, deeply impressed by the Impressionist exhibition in Vienna in 1903, he decided to study painting. Until 1908 he attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, Heinrich Lefler was his teacher. From 1904 he exhibited regularly at the Hagenbund, of which he was a member from 1909 to 1922. In 1911 and 1912 he was also president of this artists' association. He was also a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. From 1924, the artist was principal of the "Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt" in Vienna. Junk participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. His work was recognized by the granting of a number of awards. Rudolf Junk was primarily a landscape painter, graphic artist and woodcarver. The artist designed stamps, banknotes and books as well as quite a number of catalogues for the Hagenbund exhibitions.
