Otto Barth Wien 1876-Waidhofen/Thaya 1916

After attending a private painting school, Otto Barth, born in Vienna in 1876, studied at the “Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt“. From 1892 to 1896, he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Franz Rumpler and Siegmund L'Allemand. This was followed by participation in exhibitions at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. In 1905, Barth took part in an exhibition of the Hagenbund for the first time, where he also became a member two years later until his death in 1916. He designed the poster and catalogue for the 27th Hagenbund exhibition in 1908/09.

Barth's motifs were mainly landscapes – often alpine in nature and covered in deep snow – he himself was an enthusiastic mountaineer and published numerous graphics in mountaineering magazines.
