The painting ‘Ornis’ was created at Murau Castle, the ancestral seat of the Schwarzenberg princes. Mairwöger painted numerous large formats in the castle's medieval laundry room between 1982 and 1985....
The painting ‘Ornis’ was created at Murau Castle, the ancestral seat of the Schwarzenberg princes. Mairwöger painted numerous large formats in the castle's medieval laundry room between 1982 and 1985. Works from this period are among the best and most sought-after. - ‘Ornis’ is very typical of this period: monochrome, moving surfaces push towards the edge of the picture on all sides, subtle transparencies and overlaps determine the impression. Incidentally, the only fresco by Gottfried Mairwöger was also painted in Murau Castle. (Notes: Benedikt Mairwöger, 2023)
